I wanted to provide a small update on what is happening behind the scenes at Prosoft Studio. Our staff has been quite busy working to expand our knowledge of additional programming languages. Recently I have personally been learning how to program Java so I can possibly develop Android applications. The growing mobile device market is something we are looking in to for future projects and the market share for Android is steadily growing everyday.

In no way are we turning our back on web development with the PHP platform. We actually are looking at possible ways development on the Android platform could build upon and improve our upcoming products built off of PHP. Our goal is to expand the functionality of our software not only through a web interface, but a mobile interface as well.

Thank you everyone for your continued interest in Prosoft Studio!

Prosoft Studio is excited to announce that our first official open source project is now available to the public. php-url-router is a PHP class used to assist developers in creating websites and scripts using fancy permalink URLs. This is all possible with our advanced, yet easy to use, custom-made PHP class. Before php-url-router was released as open source, we have been using the class in the development of all our upcoming products here at Prosoft Studio. We felt that since the class was so useful to us, it could possibly be very useful to other developers as well.

Although this is only the first release of php-url-router, this release is very stable after countless hours of testing on our own development projects. We will continue to improve php-url-router with bugfixes, added features, and optimized code as development continues. We are already working on adding new features that will be available in a future release.

You can visit our GitHub Page anytime for the development of php-url-router. The latest release will always be available on our Downloads page at GitHub.

We hope you find php-url-router to be as useful as we have in our own development.

Today we have just begun implementing a brand new module into μHelpDesk – Our revolutionary ticketing system will allow website owners to better communicate with their customers beyond levels ever allowed for before.

Our system gives website owners endless options to increase the performance and relevance of the support tickets that they receive. The first feature we want to announce is our direct ticketing system which allows for tickets to be sent to specific departments so that the request gets sent to the right people straight away.

This is the first feature and we still have more revolutionary new features up our sleeves that we will announce in the coming weeks!

Stay tuned!

We promise to keep everyone updated with information about the progression of our development. We also intend of explaining how each module will function within μHelpDesk. Not only that, we will give some sneak peeks at what μHelpDesk looks like during its development stages as features and modules are completed.

A goal we have set is to make μHelpDesk a piece of software that contains software that website owners actually will use and features they truly need. We are constantly looking for suggestions as to what you would like to see included in the official release of μHelpDesk. Is your current help desk software lacking a certain feature or just not getting the job done? Tell us what is on your mind and we will look to include that in our release.

Development is already well underway, and we are already excited about how μHelpDesk is progressing. Daniel and I cannot wait until we can continue sharing the latest news and sneak peeks of μHelpDesk.

Thank you,

In Part 3 of our “Setup Git for Development” tutorial, are going to begin setting up your identity within Git Bash. We are going to continue right where Part 2 left off. It is important to setup your identity that was others you are collaborating with are able to determine which commits are from you. Many places like GitHub will require them so its system can determine which user made the commit and if they have the appropriate permissions to do so.

Getting Started

If you continued from Step 2, you should already have Git Bash open, however if you don’t, go ahead an open it now. Below is a screenshot of what Git Bash looks like. If you your screen doesn’t look exactly the same that is fine, I open a fresh Git Bash window.

Once you have Git Bash open we are going to enter a few commands that will be used to identify yourself. Please enter the command below, however replace my own first name and last name with your own full name.

1

$ git config --global user.name "Brandon Enriquez"

$ git config --global user.name "Brandon Enriquez"

Once you have completed entering your full name, go ahead and press enter. If it was successful you will not see any response back from Git Bash except for a new line that you can enter a command from.

The next command you will enter is going to identify your email address. Again please enter the command below, however replace the fake email address with your own email address. Sometimes this email must match the email address on the project manager you may be using, this may not apply to everyone though.

1

$ git config --global user.email "brandon@somewhere.com"

$ git config --global user.email "brandon@somewhere.com"

Once you entered your own email address, go ahead and press enter. Again if it was successful you will not see any response back.

GitHub Setup

This next section is completely optional, however required if you plan on using GitHub as your project management portal. In order to complete this step, you will need your GitHub username and API Token. To get to your API Token, go to the GitHub website and to go Account Settings then Account Admin. From there you will see a long string under the API Token header.

Once you have your GitHub username and API Token, go ahead and begin entering this command below. Replace my username with your own GitHub username.

1

$ git config --global github.user username

$ git config --global github.user username

Same as before when your ready press enter and then copy to API Token and replace the word apitoken in the following command with your token from the GitHub website.

1

$ git config --global github.token apitoken

$ git config --global github.token apitoken

Once you are done entering your token, press enter and you will be done setting up your GitHub identity. Just know that if you ever change your GitHub password, this token will change and will need to be re-entered through Git Bash.

Result

If you successful setup your identity with your full name and email address, and GitHub username and API Token if you chose to, then your screen should like the one below. Obviously it will not look exactly the same as you placed your own variables in place of the sample data.

If you have any questions or need help, please feel free to ask in the comments.

I thought I would just give everyone a little update as to why there hasn’t been any new content lately on Prosoft Studio. These past few weeks, I have been hard at work trying to make major progress on Project phpKB (who’s official name we will be announcing soon). I have working hours around the clock to provide a solid code structure and what I have gotten to so far I am very happy with. Although I have been hard at work on this project, I still have not forgotten about our website. Next week I am hoping to publish a new tutorial (or two) as well as possibly a preview of what is complete so far on Project phpKB.

I thank everyone for your patience and loyalty so far. I guarantee you that you won’t be let down once you see what Project phpKB has to offer.
